Please check in and let us know how you are doing. In Clarksdale we had mostly sleet with some snow. Maybe a little freezing rain this morning, but trees and power lines are OK, and the precipitation has ended here. The problems here are the really slick roads. Well over an inch of sleet and some snow packed down and frozen hard, with single digit night temps coming, and no thaw in sight for several days. Travel is highly discouraged in this part of the Delta. Even folks with 4WD are having big trouble getting around, according to their Facebook posts. However, we are thankful to have power so far. I hope all of you are OK.
Nashville had significant ice, but nothing like North Mississippi. We lost power this morning. There are a lot of downed trees and power lines. I’ve got a big branch over my shed and 2 more over my neighbors new fence. We’re luckier than many in our area.
My daughter lives 25 miles southeast and has power so we drove to her house this afternoon. Once we got to I-24, we were okay, but there were about a dozen times before getting there that I was second guessing making that drive.
I did order a good 4000 watt power station from Costco and a dual fuel generator that I can use to keep it charged. So in the future, I’ll be able to keep a room warm and the fridge going.
Y’all stay warm and be careful. I hope Oxford recovers from this as quickly as possible.
Shoutout to all of the linemen across the south who are doing hard stuff. They are heroes.
