Chambliss’ touchdown streak ends one game shy of Ole Miss record

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is sacked by Georgia safety Khalil Barnes during the Rebels’ November 7 game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Chambliss’ streak of 21 consecutive games with a touchdown pass ended in the loss.

OXFORD — Trinidad Chambliss entered Saturday night needing one more game with a touchdown pass to match an Ole Miss record. Georgia kept him from reaching it.

Chambliss was held without a passing touchdown in the Rebels’ 42-7 loss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, ending his streak at 21 consecutive games. Chad Kelly’s school record of 22 remains intact.

The streak ended during a difficult night for the Rebels quarterback, who completed 18 of 34 passes for 170 yards and one interception. Georgia sacked Chambliss four times and recorded five sacks overall while holding Ole Miss scoreless through three quarters.

One possession late in the first half captured the frustration. With the Rebels threatening in Georgia territory, safety Khalil Barnes dropped Chambliss for a 16-yard loss. On the next play, KJ Bolden intercepted his pass, ending another opportunity to get Ole Miss on the scoreboard.

Georgia carried a 28-0 lead into halftime and extended the margin to 35-0 before Shekai Mills-Knight’s eight-yard touchdown run gave the Rebels their only points with 10:43 remaining.

For Chambliss, the touchdown streak represented sustained production across two seasons. It ended as the second-longest streak in program history.

Another stretch of consistency ended Saturday: his 14 consecutive games with at least 20 completions.

Even in defeat, Chambliss continued moving up the school’s career passing lists. He reached 6,296 passing yards and 501 completions at Ole Miss, placing him seventh in program history in both categories.

Those milestones offered little relief on a night when the Rebels struggled to finish possessions. Restoring protection and turning scoring opportunities into touchdowns will be central to their response.

Ole Miss visits Oklahoma on November 14 for a 3:15 p.m. CT kickoff on SEC Network, giving Chambliss his next opportunity to begin another streak.
