Trenton Daniels threw for 437 yards and five touchdowns in Sumrall’s 54-48 overtime win over Natchez. The freshman quarterback also rushed three times for 21 yards, finishing with 458 total yards.
That performance is part of a strong season for the 6-foot, 170-pound 2030 prospect. Daniels has completed 142 of 215 passes for 2,002 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has added 128 rushing yards for 2,130 total yards of offense.
Daniels received an offer from UT Martin on July 20. He said earning college interest so early in his journey was meaningful.
“It was a blessing to me. It felt amazing knowing that a college program believes in my potential this early in my journey!” Daniels said.
The transition from middle school to high school football has required Daniels to adjust to the speed of the game and the responsibility of running an offense. He was called up to take a few snaps in middle school, which gave him an early taste of the competition. Now, as Sumrall’s quarterback, he is learning how preparation, discipline and attention to detail all contribute to leading the offense.
“My decision-making and accuracy have improved the most this season,” Daniels said. “I’m learning to trust what I see, trust my preparation and not let one play affect the next. I’ve also gotten better at knowing when to take what the defense gives me.”

Daniels said the moments that stand out are when the work put in during practice carries over to Friday nights. Every game has taught him something, whether it came through a big play or a mistake. He believes those experiences have helped him grow not only as a quarterback, but also as a leader.
Sumrall is 5-4, sits fourth in the district and currently holds the district’s final playoff spot. Daniels hopes to help the Bobcats reach the postseason while continuing to develop as a quarterback and leader. He is also focused on his academics and looks forward to visiting college programs and experiencing their game-day environments.
