After back-to-back losses, Texas quarterback Arch Manning says he’s ready to trust what he sees and let the ball go against Ole Miss.
“I’m gonna die on the hill of, I’m letting it rip,” Manning said Monday. He also admitted he has been “a little too hesitant” in recent games.
Manning threw for 433 yards and four touchdowns across Texas’ losses to Oklahoma and Florida. He also had three turnovers: two interceptions against Oklahoma and a late fumble against Florida. Ole Miss coach Pete Golding still sees Manning as a major threat, praising his “elite arm talent.”
The Rebels have recorded 11 sacks through six games, with defensive end Blake Purchase leading the team with 3.5. Golding said Ole Miss needs to stay ahead of the chains and force Texas into obvious passing situations. That starts with slowing down the run and making Texas rely on the passing game.
Pressure alone won’t be enough. If Manning gets the ball out quickly, Texas could turn Ole Miss’ aggressiveness into open throws downfield. The Rebels need to disrupt him while staying disciplined in coverage.
The challenge is clear: stop the run, pressure Manning and keep the deep ball in front of the defense.
Game info: Ole Miss faces Texas Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
