Jamarious Brown usually makes his living battling offensive linemen and stopping the run. Saturday against Vanderbilt, the Ole Miss defensive tackle got a chance to show he could do a little more.
And he didn’t disappoint.
Brown hauled in a 2-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss in the second quarter, helping Ole Miss build a 21-3 lead.
For a player who normally spends his Saturdays chasing quarterbacks and making tackles, getting into the end zone was a pretty special moment.
Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding wasn’t surprised by Brown’s athletic ability.
“That dude was a hell of an athlete in high school, man. Wildcat quarterback, tight end,” Golding said. “So he made a heck of a play, man. It was awesome.”
Golding also credited the offensive staff for putting Brown in position to make something happen.
“Great design, great execution,” Golding said.
Chambliss enjoyed seeing his defensive teammate get a chance to score.
“It was cool, JB is athletic,” Chambliss said following the game.
Brown’s touchdown was another example of Ole Miss finding different ways to move the football. He became the first traditionally defensive Rebel to score an offensive touchdown since JJ Pegues accomplished the feat against Mississippi State in November 2024.
Ole Miss carried a commanding 42-3 lead into halftime, with Brown’s touchdown providing one of the afternoon’s biggest highlights.
For Brown, it was an opportunity to show that his football skills go beyond playing defensive tackle.
And when his number was called, he made the most of it.
