Holmes CC safety Will Shoemake seeing recruiting interest pick up

Holmes Community College freshman safety Will Shoemake (20) has recorded 16 tackles, three pass breakups and an interception while drawing recruiting interest, including an offer from Texas A&M–Texarkana.

Will Shoemake is starting to get noticed on the recruiting trail, and his freshman season at Holmes Community College is giving college coaches plenty to evaluate.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound safety has picked up an offer from Texas A&M–Texarkana, while other universities have started showing interest. Through the midway point of the season, Shoemake has recorded 16 tackles, three pass breakups and one interception.

“My freshman season has been going well. I’ve been making plays and putting good film out there,” Shoemake said.

The transition to college football has brought some adjustments, particularly learning defensive checks and formations. However, Shoemake believes his man-to-man coverage has improved the most since arriving at Holmes.

From a scouting standpoint, Shoemake has the size you like at safety. His 6-foot-2 frame gives him the potential to match up with bigger receivers, while his improving coverage skills make him an interesting defensive back to follow. Additionally, his ability to make plays on the football adds another dimension to his game.

“I’m trying to prove that I am a playmaker and can make the momentum of the game change by making a play,” Shoemake said.

With Texas A&M–Texarkana already offering and additional programs beginning to take notice, Shoemake is building momentum on the recruiting trail. Still, his focus remains on improving his game and continuing to produce quality film.

“I want them to see me as a ball hawk who can go get it, but also a field general and a leader,” he said.
