Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy remains questionable for Saturday’s road game against Vanderbilt, but Pete Golding expects to have him back in the lineup.
Lacy has rushed for 191 yards and four touchdowns on 39 carries through three games this season. He missed the Florida game, but the open week gave him additional time to recover.
“Fully anticipate having him this week,” Golding said during his Monday press conference.
That’s encouraging news for an Ole Miss offense looking to get its running game back on track.
Lacy brings a physical presence to the backfield. He’s tough to tackle, runs through contact and has the ability to turn short gains into bigger plays. His return would also help take some pressure off quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.
However, Golding isn’t expecting Lacy to carry the entire workload right away.
The Rebels plan to rotate their running backs, with JT Lindsey and Makhi Frazier also expected to have opportunities against Vanderbilt.
For Ole Miss, getting Lacy back would be a big boost heading into another SEC road game. The Rebels need more consistency on the ground, and having their leading running back available would certainly help.
Even with a limited workload, Lacy gives Ole Miss something it missed against Florida — a physical runner who can help keep the offense moving.
