Kutas says Rebels must start faster

Ole Miss offensive lineman Patrick Kutas said Tuesday at a press conference that the Rebels’ struggles offensively last Saturday versus the Florida Gators is a quick fix. Ole Miss lost to the Gators by a 52-28 score.

“We’ve just got to start fast, really,” Kutas said. “We’ve got to start fast, we’ve got to sustain it and then we’ve got to end fast. I thought we were just a little sluggish coming out in the first and second quarters. But if we can start fast, we can be one of the best offenses in the country.”

No. 9 Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1 SEC) is certainly still in contention for a College Football Playoff berth with plenty of opportunities ahead. The Rebels are open this week before traveling to Nashville to meet Vanderbilt on Oct. 10.

Kutas was asked to assess the Rebels offensive line play four games into the season.

“I think we’re in a good spot. Obviously, there is stuff we can do to improve every single day. You can find tweaks to your game on film. But I think the longer we play together, the more practices we get, the more reps we get, we’re just going to gel together even more than we do right now,” Kutas said.

As for the bye week?

“Just get your body right, get your mind right. Kind of get away from it a little bit but also know this is an opportunity to assess what you did well, what you did bad. Put a little bit of focus into the next game, too. You get a little bit of a head start,” related Kutas.

And as for having the open week right after a loss?

“It stings more,” said Kutas.
