Corey Stephenson may not fall under the SEC’s new professional-athlete ban after reports indicated that he never officially signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Detroit Pistons.
That distinction keeps his expected move to Ole Miss alive. However, neither the university nor the SEC has announced that Stephenson is cleared to compete during the 2026-27 season.
His biggest remaining obstacle involves Glancey v. NCAA, a lawsuit seeking another season of eligibility for players from the 2022 high school class. An injunction hearing is reportedly scheduled for September 29, potentially leaving Ole Miss without a final answer when preseason preparation begins.
Stephenson would be a significant addition to Chris Beard’s rotation. The 6-foot-6 wing averaged 18 points and 6.4 rebounds at FIU last season while shooting nearly 40 percent from three-point range. His scoring, shooting and experience could immediately strengthen the Rebels’ perimeter.
Ole Miss must verify his professional-contract history, monitor the legal process and prepare its rotation for either outcome. For now, Stephenson remains a potential difference-maker—not a guaranteed piece of Ole Miss’ rotation.
