Hunter Elliott
Ole Miss mainstay Hunter Elliott is expected to stroll to the hill tonight in Tuscaloosa as the Rebels’ starting pitcher. He is expected to be opposite of Alabama starter Tyler Fay (8-3, 4.48 ERA).
The left-handed Elliott owns a 5-2 record and 5.12 earned run average. In all honesty, he hasn’t had the best season among Ole Miss hurlers, but his big-game prominence in the past has many still hanging ace on his left arm.
It is also his late-season efforts throughout his college career that has big-game pitcher drooped over his shoulder. Elliott owns a 7-2 career record in May with a very respectable 2.13 ERA. He has fanned 67 would-be hitters in 57.1 innings pitched.
Last Friday, in his start against Texas A&M, Elliott became just the third Rebel in program history to reach the 300-strikeout mark in their career. He joins Drew Pomeranz and Lance Lynn as the only players to cross the mark.
Elliott now needs 19 more strikeouts to pass Lynn for second in program history. He is also 12 strikeouts away from becoming the first Rebel to record three 100-strikeout seasons.
OLE MISS CAREER STRIKEOUT LIST
1. Drew Pomeranz 344
2. Lance Lynn 332
3. Hunter Elliott 304
4. Jeff Calhoun 282
5. Mark Holliman 281
Elliott turned in one of the best seasons in Rebel history last year, becoming just the fifth pitcher to record a 10-win, 100-strikeout season finishing with a 10-3 record and 102 punchouts. He also became just the fourth pitcher in program history to record 100+ strikeouts in two different seasons. His 2.94 ERA was the lowest by a Rebel starting pitcher since his freshman season when he finished with an ERA of 2.70.
Elliott is the only returning pitcher in the country to have earned 10+ wins and struck out 100+ hitters in 2025.
First pitch for tonight’s Ole Miss-Alabama game is set for 6 p.m. CT. The contest will be televised on the SEC Network+.
