The Boston Terriers
The Ole Miss Rebels will begin defense of their 2025 run to the Women’s College World Series on Friday when they meet the Boston University Terriers in the opening game of the 2026 Lubbock Regional hosted by Texas Tech.
The Regional is also composed of host Texas Tech (52-6) and Marist (37-19).
Boston University is the champion of the Patriot League with a very respectable record of 46-13. The Rebels are an at-large selection from the powerful Southeastern Conference with a record of 34-24. The Terriers bring an impressive 12-game win streak into their opening-round meeting versus Ole Miss.
BU has a tradition with the NCAA Tournament, as it is making its ninth NCAA appearance as the Patriot League champion and 15th overall in the Big Dance. Ole Miss has qualified for the NCAA Tournament six consecutive seasons and every year under head coach Jamie Trachsel.
Slugging, junior outfielder Kylie Doherty leads Boston U. at the plate with team highs in batting average (.396), hits (74), doubles (12), home runs (26) and runs-batted-in (88).
Senior, right-handed pitcher Kasey Ricard is the ace of the Boston staff and likely the arm Ole Miss will face on Friday. Ricard owns a super-impressive record of 32-6, with a 2.81 earned run average over 234.1 innings of work. She has struck out 230 and walked 61 this season. She also has three saves to her credit.
AGAINST THE SEC
Boston U. opened its 2026 season in Columbia, S.C., in the Carolina Classic. The Terriers twice met host South Carolina, losing both games by scores of 6-2 and 6-1, respectively. Ole Miss battled South Carolina just once this season, as the Rebels eliminated the 23rd-ranked Gamecocks in the opening-game of the SEC Tournament by a 2-0 score.
