Ole Miss pitcher Emillee Boyer was the tough-luck pitcher of record Thursday.
A pitcher’s duel broke out Thursday evening at the softball complex in Oxford, as Mississippi State whisked away with a slim 1-0 victory over Ole Miss in game one of a best-of-three SEC series.
Ole Miss starting pitcher Emilee Boyer (9-12) turned in one of the best efforts on the season in a losing cause. Boyer worked a seven-inning complete game, allowing just one earned run, while scattering six hits, two walks and striking out seven.
But Mississippi State starter Alyssa Faircloth (12-5) was even better. Faircloth allowed just one hit in a seven-inning complete game inn which she walked none and struck out 14 Rebels.
Ole Miss dropped to 30-23 and to 4-18 in the SEC. Mississippi State improved to 37-15 and to 9-15 in the league.

The Bulldogs scored the game’s only run in the top of the second when a long flyball deflected off of Ole Miss left fielder Laylonna Applin’s glove and exited the park off the bat of Kiarra Sells.
Ole Miss lone hit in the game was a spinning bunt off the bat of shortstop Cassie Reasner.
The two teams meet again Friday in Oxford for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch.
