Madi George tabbed SEC frosh of week

Ole Miss softball freshman Madi George has added another weekly honor to her growing list of achievements, earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors, as the conference announced on Tuesday.

It’s the first SEC weekly honor for George, who becomes the first Rebel to win the award since her teammate, Persy Llamas, did so last season. Earlier in the day, George earned a clean sweep of the national awards, being named the D1Softball National Freshman of the Week, the Softball America National Freshman Star of the Week and Softball on SI’s National Freshman of the Week.

George turned in another huge week to add to her torrid pace in April, hitting .636 (7-for-11) with three home runs, 10 RBI, a double and three walks. George tallied a multi-home run game in the win over Southern Miss, before driving in six more runs in the Auburn series victory, headlined by a 3-for-3 and five RBI showing in game two.

It’s been an enormous season for George, who has set the single season program records for home runs (21), RBI (56) and total bases (132). The Leander, Texas native is hitting a scorching .400, while tallying 21 home runs, seven doubles, 56 RBI and 27 walks. George is slugging .880 and also holds a team-high .497 on-base percentage.

In the month of April alone, George is hitting .442 with 11 home runs and 25 RBI, as well as a pair of doubles and six walks. SEC play has also gone well for George, who is hitting .328 with seven home runs and 16 RBI over 21 conference games.

The Rebels conclude the regular season hosting a three-game series against nationally ranked Mississippi State this weekend, with game one set for Thursday at 6 p.m. CT. Game one will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
