It simply keep getting worse for Ole Miss softball. The Rebels blew two different leads before succumbing to the LSU Tigers 8-5 Sunday afternoon in Baton Rouge. The loss dipped Ole Miss to 27-21, while its conference record slid to 2-16. No. 15 LSU improved to 32-14 and evened its conference mark at 9-9.
The Rebels led the Tigers 2-0 after one and 5-4 heading into the fifth inning. LSU struck for one in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5, before slicing the jugular of the Rebels with a three-run sixth to make for the 8-5 final.
Ole Miss went with Emilee Boyer as its starting pitcher, after she walked 11 batters in a loss to LSU on Friday. Boyer (9-10) demonstrated better control on Sunday, only walking two. The problem was the Tigers ate up her strikes, ripping her for 11 hits and reaching a team cycle with a double, a triple a two home runs.

The Ole Miss offense really can’t be faulted, as the Rebels accounted for eight hits themselves, including four home runs. Freshman right fielder Madi George blasted two out of the park…a two-run shot in the first and a solo dinger in the fourth…to set a new school record for homers in a season with 18. George is also hitting over .370 this season.
George finished Sunday’s game going 3-for-4 with three runs-batted-in. Shortstop Cassie Reasner also had a big game with a 3-for-4 effort and a homer an RBI.
