Rabe’s pitching effort Sunday should not be forgotten in sweep of LSU Tigers

Not to be lost in Sunday’s series-sweeping 8-7 Ole Miss victory over rival LSU is the performance from starting pitcher Taylor Rabe. Rabe worked the first six innings allowing just two runs on two hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Ole Miss skipper Mike Bianco certainly hoped Rabe’s effort would not be lost in the wild affair that exploded in the latter innings.

“You hope that a performance like that doesn’t get lost in this game,” said Bianco in reference to Rabe’s outing. “It was a really, crazy, neat, college baseball game, but man he was as good as we’ve seen. You couldn’t be better than he was…It was a tough day to pitch…warm, wind gushing out. Really, was one over the minimum through six.

“…He was super. He was super.”

LSU climbed back into things when the Tigers put forth a seven-run seventh inning. The Rebels had built a 7-0 lead through six off the back of Rabe’s performance.

“I was feeling really good today,” related Rabe. “I wish I could have been a little bit sharper there at the end and not give up those two runs. It was a tough way to go out, but everything was working. I felt like after the first two days we had a good idea of what we needed to do…the scouting reports to be successful.”
