Kutas: Return of Terrance Metcalf ‘a blessing’ to Ole Miss o-line room

Ole Miss guard Patrick Kutas

Returning starting guard Patrick Kutas says the synergy inside the offensive line room at Ole Miss this spring gets an A+ so far. That is from a stew made up of returners, incoming transfers, freshmen and even some new coaching.

After offensive line coach John Garrison did an incredible jon stewarding the unit during last season’s national semifinal playoff team, he added some help, enlisting the services of former Ole Miss All-American offensive lineman Terrance Metcalf on the staff as the assitant offensive line coach. Metcalf has an active role, on the field actually coaching the Rebs alongside Garrison during spring ball.

After his career at Ole Miss ended, he spent nine seasons in the NFL. He then went on to a coaching career that included a stop as head coach at Coahoma Community College.

Kutas was asked what it was like to have Metcalf in the trenches, offering advice.

“It’s been such a blessing,” related Kutas. “Just having somebody that’s seen the game from a professional view like him, it really helps my play. I know it helps Coach garrison, too, and Coach Chris (James). That’s another dude that they can lean on and they can trust to guide us as players.”

Metcalf is also the father of former Ole Miss wide receiver DK Metcalf, who has gone on to stardom in the NFL. DK Metcalf has been seen on the Ole Miss practice field this year, as well.
