Rebels add 6-5 Emily Howard from transfer portal. Comes from Boise State

Ole Miss women’s basketball is wasting no time in getting things started in the transfer portal. Just hours after adding Tennessee guard Talaysia Cooper, who is one of the most talented players in the SEC, the Rebels signed 6-5 post player Emily Howard from Boise State.

Howard is a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She signed with Liberty out of high school where she averaged 7.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game during her last season with the Flames. In her two years with Liberty, she played in 54 games, shooting 57.4 percent from the floor and averaging 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Howard visited Ole Miss and Oxford over the last few days.

She played her entire high school career at Harding Academy in nearby Memphis, Tenn.

“It’s a great program,” said Howard of Ole Miss, “and they have a winning culture. There are also great coaches and staff.

“Coach Yo is amazing. She is definitely one of a kind.”

Howard has a distinct size advantage at 6-foot-5. How will she be used by the Rebels?

“Definitely my size, my physical strength…A lot of people in the SEC are all big, so I’m excited to go to work,” said Howard.

After two seasons at Liberty, she then transferred to Boise State where she averaged 2.4 points and 1.8 boards per game this past season. She averaged approximately seven minutes per game for the Broncos.

“I didn’t really fit the playing style,” Howard said.

Howard will arrive at Ole Miss in June after finishing classes at Boise State.
