T&F breaks records at Stanford Invite

PALO ALTO, Calif. / BATON ROUGE, La. – Ole Miss track & field’s distance squad broke two school records and scored several impressive PRs at the Stanford Invite late Saturday night, while the remainder of the Rebel team got off to a solid start at LSU’s Battle on the Bayou.

Senior Kidus Misgina broke his own school record in the 10K set nearly one year ago exactly at the Stanford Invite, finishing 22nd in the invitational heat tonight at a career-best 28:17.69 – besting his 2025 record of 28:20.19. Fellow senior Aiden Britt nearly ran a PR as well in 26th at 28:28.35.

Senior Beth Arentz ran an 11-second PR en route to a win in the third section of the women’s 5K, clocking in at 15:51.89 to break Kristel van den Berg’s record 15:54.27 from the 2023 Stanford Invite. Fellow senior Sophie Baumann nearly took down that old record as well at a 13-second PR 15:54.69, which now ranks her fourth all-time behind Arentz, van den Berg and Loral Winn’s PR 15:55.23 from the second section tonight – her first race on the track since the 2024 indoor season.

The Rebel men also scored three more PRs on Saturday night from Evan Thornton-Sherman (13:32.99; No. 4 all-time) and Marco Perez (13:55.87; No. 15 all-time) in the 5K, and Sergio Del Barrio in the 3000-meter steeplechase (8:38.05; No. 3 all-time).

At LSU, sophomore Lily Beattie had the top performance of the day following a fourth-place finish in a stacked women’s pole vault field. Beattie cleared an overall PR 4.30m/14-01.25 on her second attempt, in the process becoming the fourth 14-footer in Ole Miss history (third outdoors. Beattie now ranks third all-time at Ole Miss outdoors.

Also clearing PRs were Aly Francolini and Mary Cate Doughty, who tied for 10th at 4.00m/13-01.50 and are now tied for 13th in Ole Miss history.

National leader Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan remained undefeated in the hammer this outdoor season, winning today on a toss of 72.17m/236-9. He beat out Minnesota’s Angelos Mantzouranis, who finished ahead of Robinson-O’Hagan as the NCAA runner-up outdoors last summer.

In the women’s hammer, All-American junior Akaoma Odeluga was the top Rebel in fifth place at 62.72m/205-9, while senior Nyah Edwards unleashed a massive nine-foot PR in sixth place at 62.16m/203-11.

Sophomore Samuel Ferguson ran a career-best in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing third at 9:12.44 – good for No. 11 all-time at Ole Miss after Del Barrio’s race later in the evening at Stanford.

Competition resumes at LSU at 10:30 a.m. CT with the women’s discus and men’s shot put.
