In case you were wondering, even with the recent changing of the guard, one thing remains as strong as ever: the recruiting front. While Pete Golding gears up to continue to lead his team in the CFP semifinals against No. 10 Miami after taking down SEC foe Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, he and his staff are also remain diligent in building for the future. It may seem a bit quiet at times, but rest assured, the Texas pipeline to Ole Miss is still very much alive.
For many, the class of 2029 feels like a distant prospect in the world of recruiting. However, in today’s competitive landscape, no program can afford to fall behind or risk missing out on potential talent. The Rebels recently ventured to Waco to strengthen their signature defense by extending an offer to Eddison King, a 6-foot-2 edge rusher from La Vega High School.
Although he isn’t currently ranked, those of us in the Texas recruiting scene know it’s only a matter of time before that changes for the freshman who has already made a big impact on defensive front. I had the chance to chat with King after receiving his first SEC offer from Ole Miss.
OleMiss365: What stands out most about receiving an offer from Ole Miss?
KING:”Ole Miss is having a great season and making the playoffs is big!!” I like the passion Coach Randall has for the game.”
Ole Miss 365: It’s early in your recruitment process—are there any schools standing out so far?
King: “Each school possess something special… Texas Tech, Kansas, Baylor, and SMU were all on me before high school… and now Ole Miss being the first SEC school means a lot to me…I started dancing after I got the offer lol.”
Ole Miss 365: What are you looking for in your future program?
KING:”I’m looking for a program that has a winning culture…where I can grow and develop into the #1 pick in the NFL Draft.”
Ole Miss 365 : What do you believe is your strongest asset that you could bring to an SEC team like Ole Miss?
King: “If you watch my tape, you’ll see I have a really high motor. I love going after quarterbacks and stopping runs. I’ve been training hard since fourth grade. My passion for football brings high energy that can help us win championships every year!”
Even at this early stage in his recruitment, it’s clear that King is eager to make an impact. Ole Miss getting involved early is crucial as Pete Golding builds this new foundation based on relationships and roots.
We asked King what he believes sets Ole Miss apart and positions them well for a run at the college football playoff. He said, “Ole Miss have a really good defense leading in sacks…they are well coached.I look forward to heading down to Waco this winter and spring to see more from King!
